The names of 72,000 British soldiers missing at the Battle of the Somme in 1916 are carved into the walls of the WW1 monument designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Located on a prominent ridgeline the monument is designed to dominate a vast area of open countryside of the Somme.

The visitor centre, designed by French architects Plan 01, provides interpretative and comfort facilities for the thousands of visitors to Thiepval each year. Enplan provided site planning advice and detailed landscape designs for the earthworks, bunding and planting that effectively marries the contemporary buildings and the parking facilities into this historically and visually sensitive site.
