River Thames Scheme
Environment Agency scheme for flood alleviation of the River Thames from Datchet to Teddington including a 15km long relief channel in three sections and weir enhancements at Molesey, Sunbury and Teddington. Enplan are the Landscape Lead for the development and design of the project with the vision for the scheme to provide a series of interlinked wetlands, ‘over-widened’ where space allows opportunities for bio-diversity, structural landscape enhancement, with increased public access and recreation. Given the suburban context, the scheme must establish a beneficial relationship with adjacent residential areas. This will largely be achieved by providing good visual connectivity, whilst ensuring the backdrop for the corridor is appropriately softened. Integrating the channel at pinch points, such as the numerous road and rail crossings, is also a key design challenge.
