ST ANDREW'S HEALTHCARE

A strategic review of the existing 164 hectare estate of St Andrew’s Healthcare, a psychiatric hospital. The site comprises a former golf course which was closed and the brief was to create a sensory landscape for the use of the patients. The first task was to undertake consultation with all the departments to find out what was required on the site. This led on to the creation of a masterplan that provided improved circulation via a hierarchy of routes. Golf buggies were proposed and a series of events within the landscape such as trim trail, sculpture, play, sensory gardens, amphitheatre, allotments and city farm. New courtyard gardens were also proposed within some of the key patient blocks.
